Musk Rose / Rosa Moschataor desi gulab as it is known is a variety of rose which is found in India. It is believed to originated in the western Himalayas and brought inland into India by the mighals. I have found that this variety is both edible and has a nice smell. The hybrid varieties are sometimes bred for shelf life, sometimes just for visual aesthetics. These sometimes have almost zero smell, and don’t have a great taste. This old variety is used for jams and syrups.
