Manipura Chakra – Fire Chakra – Handmade painting

2100

The third chakra is the Manipura. It is located in the belly, behind the stomach. The element for this chakra is fire. The phrase “fire in the belly” probably has something to do with this. This fire is the one which transforms. It breaks the food we eat into simple bits which the muladhara then absorbs energy/prana from.

The color of this chakra is Yellow. This is the center for the sun in your body. Also closely related to ayurvedas JattarAgni. Any stomach related issues, acidity or problems in digestion with weak acid are all due to an imbalanced Manipura. It is what gives ‘the drive’ for anything one wants to do. A balanced manipura is what gives self confidence.

One interesting thing about how this chakra is visualized is that it has just one triangle which is pointing downward. Part of the reason why I am doing this series is when you spend so much time with it you start pondering over different aspects. Most others have a hexagon which is two traingles with equal sides upward and downward pointing. Visually it is very balanced like the Yin Yang symbol. The upward pointing triangle is used for Purusha or the conscious mind, while the downward pointing one is shown for Shakti or the subconscious/unconscious. My interpretation for this is that we do not control our stomachs at all with our conscious mind. While other chakras with the hexagon have a play between both parts of the brain, this one is taken care of totally by the subconscious/unconscious. Do let me know what you think about this.

The beej (seed) mantra for this chakra is written in devanagri as रं. Now the R sound is said differently in different parts of the world. French people say a guttural R, while some make the sound very soft without using the tip of the tongue. These were all oral traditions before letters came into picture. The best way to find the right way to speak this is both to listen to others saying it and trying slightly different versions yourself. This RUM, or RAM, or RRRMM, is actualy the beej mantra for fire 🔥 which is used for the Manipura chakra. And the only thing which will happen with different ways of saying R is less or more heat generated. Unlike some other mantras were the risks of mispronouncing are far greater, here you could do with some trial and error. It is interesting to see this mantra sharing phonetics with the name of a famous diety Shri Ram. Ram Ram is a common greeting in North India. It is also interesting to see the avatars of vishnu which started with water beings (matsya – fish), water- earth (kurma – turtle), then onto earth (varaha – boar), earth-fire (narasimha – wild animal/human hybrid), wild fire (parashuram – fiery human prone to instincts/anger), and then comes Rama or Ram, controlled fire. At this stage of human evolution humans mastered fire, both outside of their body and inside. Anyone using Jai Shri Ram in anger as a war cry should be afraid of angering Lord Rama.

This handmade painting using mixed media has been painted over a used postcard from the 1960s. I hope this helps as a catalyst to anyone to start mastering the fire inside themselves.
